The demonstration went great! I told the audience a little about Poekoelan and gave them an idea of the differences between Tae Kwon Do and Poekoelan. I gave them some of my history with martial arts in general and Poekoelan specifically. Then I demonstrated Set 1. I think they videotaped it. I'll post the video (or a link to it) as soon as I get the information.

Afterwards, I had a couple people come up with some questions and a few ego-stroking comments (apparently from people who never saw The Matrix). The TKD instructors were impressed and invited me back any time they have a demonstration. As part of the event, I donated a gift certificate for a 1-hour private lesson as a door prize. We'll see if it's redeemed.

Brief Update

Unfortunately, the Pflugerville YMCA closed down; however, I am now teaching through the Northwest YMCA (across from McNeil High School). Classes are going well. All the students have passed at least one test since the move.

There is a martial arts demonstration at the Y on Friday--one of the organizers invited me to participate. I'm definitely planning on attending and will demonstrate a set or two. I'm grateful for this opportunity as it shows a sense of community between martial arts styles and schools that I've noticed seems to be missing.
